Our Impact & Results

Over time, we have impacted over 800 repeat participants in our programs. We are thrilled that our initiatives have impacted our community in such a positive way, and we can’t wait to keep moving forward.

COVID-19 Pandemic Assistance

Due to the events of the global pandemic, the offices of Chicas Mom ceased their normal activities to fully lend support to the community, especially the most vulnerable sectors that were most affected during quarantine.

Chicas Mom was successful in gathering a total of 208 volunteers to combine efforts, resources, and labor in order to deliver basic needs to families in need weekly. Volunteers continuously met to pack and distribute food for 3 months. 700 families signed up for our services and were supplied aid during this period.

Mental Health Advocacy

Chicas Mom recognizes the impact on mental health that comes with the financial, domestic, and physical struggles of the community. With mental health and domestic violence as a high priority concern, we began hosting webinars, informational workshops, and outreach services addressing those needs. Through a systematic process of educational workshops and outreach services, we promote change in individuals and identify corrective behavior that can lead to an improved lifestyle and family environment.

Some of our past initiatives for mental health advocacy include a partnership with LAPD’s Foothill division and Olive View Medical Center to promote and encourage mental health resources for community members despite their migratory status. Additionally, we hosted two online sessions on combating the effects of the pandemic on emotional wellbeing with the help of the Department of Mental Health for Los Angeles County.

Local Business Initiatives

Small businesses are the backbone of the San Fernando Valley area that Chicas Mom is headquartered in. Many of our attendees and volunteers are small business owners that were negatively affected during the pandemic greatly. Chicas Mom saw that extra support was needed during this time, and devoted time and resources to help this demographic.

Through a partnership with renowned life coaches, we hosted multiple workshops specializing in helping local business owners and entrepreneurs achieve their personal and business goals in a pandemic. Additionally, we had a virtual seminar targeted at our community members that lost their street vending businesses during the lockdown. The participants were taught how to start an online sales business during a time of crisis and techniques for success. Participants also were taught techniques on how to best manage their finances in the resulting economic downturn due to job losses, increased costs of housing, basic goods and food.
